Main research interests focus on Early Earth environmental conditions - how they formed, when changed, how this is reflected in rocks and what we can say about evolution of these processes in general. Her main objects are paleoweathering profiles (paleosols) and sedimentary rocks, related to paleosols. Due to that she is good in isotopic geology, because any research within Precambrian geology is impossible to carry without broad using of isotopic geochemistry. She prefer complex approach – every investigation should be based on geological observations, include petrological, mineralogical and geochemical aspects. Therefore interests of N. Alfimova lay at the boundary of Precambrian geology, biogeochemistry and isotopic chemistry
