V.A. Glebovitsky was born on January 26, 1935. He started to work in LAGED (Laboratory of Precambrian Geology, renamed later to IPGG) as a senior laboratory assistant after graduating from the Leningrad Mining Institute in 1958. Since 1961 he worked as a researcher, since 1968 – as a head of the Laboratory of metamorphism (now the Laboratory of petrology). From 1991 to 2006 he worked as a director of the Institute. He was awarded the academic title of Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences in 1991. He was the head of the Department of petrography at the Geological faculty of the St.Petersburg State University, member of the Academic Councils of IPGG RAS and SPbSU, Chairman of Dissertation Council in IPGG RAS.
V.A. Glebovitsky is the author of more than 300 articles and 18 monographs.
