T.L. Turchenko graduated from Crystallography Department at Geological Faculty of Leningrad State University in 1971.
1971-1975 – engineer at X-ray laboratory of VSEGEI, Leningrad.
1976-1985 – engineer-radiologist in Neva PGO (Geological Survay of North-Eastern Russia), Leningrad.
Since 1985 – researcher at in the Laboratory of Isotope Chemostratigraphy and Geochronology of Sedimentary Rocks, IPGG RAS, Leningrad/St.Petersburg.
Scientific interest: XRD and TEM analyses, crystallography of mix-layer clay minerals, geochronology.
Together with laboratory team (I.M. Gorohov, N.N. Melnikov, E.P. Kutyavin, O.V. Yakovleva, G.V. Konstantinova, A.B. Kuznetsov, G.V. Ovchinnikova, T.S. Zaitseva and O.K. Kaurova) she studies the isotope geochemistry and geochronology of non-metamorphosed sedimentary rocks of the Proterozoic. She studies mixing systematics of the non-cogenetic components of shale and includes separation and analysis of a set of the submicron clay fractions varied in size, together with the employment of the leaching technique and the XRD and TEM controls of illite evolution. In many cases, the approach makes it possible to determine the timing of the diagenesis and catagenesis of clayey sediments by the analysis of a single shale sample.
